Johnny Depp’s 8th great grandmother has been discovered to have been the first American slave to successfully sue to win her freedom. In 1656, the woman, Elizabeth Keys, was a slave in Virginia. She was the first freedom fighter in the American colonies. Depp apparently has ancestors dating back to the 1600s living in Virginia.
