GCHQ, the top electronic eavesdropping agency in the United Kingdom, has been charged as “worse” than American spy agencies by a former member of the American intelligence services. Edward Snowden, increasingly known for his whistle-blowing role and the current allegations against him by the US Government, noted that GCHQ was monitoring hundreds of millions of events each day. UK source Whitehall noted that none of this was particularly secret, and GCHQ was doing “precisely what it is there to do”.
