Chrysler Refuses Government Request to Recall SUVs

The US government has requested that Chrysler recall approximately 2.7 million Jeep Grand Cherokees and Jeep Liberties that potentially have fuel tanks that could leak and be a fire hazard in the event of a rear-end collision because of the tanks’ placement under the rear bumper. However, Chrysler has refused the request from the NHTSA stating that the analysis of the vehicles is incomplete and that they do not pose a safety risk.
